Good Typing

A no-frills, free online typing course. The interface is simple, and it provides words per minute and error information for each lesson. You can also choose from different language and keyboard layout options.

This is a character education program for young children (PK through grade 3.) There are ten stories in e-book format that explore concepts like respect, kindness, and empathy. There are lessons and activities to accompany each story. You can get the stories and a few activities for free, but need to subscribe for most lessons and activities. The activities are very classroom-oriented, so homeschoolers may not get a lot from a subscription. There is also an online game component, which requires signing up for a waiting list.

A collection of hip-hop song videos that teach concepts in many subjects. Videos can be watched in regular or discussion mode (the video automatically pauses in certain spots for questions.) There are accompanying discussion questions, quizzes and activities. Subscription price is reasonable.

Go Phonics

This complete phonics and reading curriculum uses the multi-sensory, Orton-Gillingham approach, which is often effective for students with dyslexia. The packages available are pricey, but would cover about 3 years of learning. You can also purchase items separately if you'd like to try it out before investing in the complete package.

Budding Reader

This company publishes five sets of ebooks for learning to read. The books are reasonably priced, and there are some free worksheets to go with them. The company also donates a book to a child in need every time you make a purchase.

Lemonade Day

If you have a budding entrepreneur in your family, this site is for you! Join in your local Lemonade Day activities and help your child learn financial literacy, problem solving, goal setting and more.

Heidi Songs

This company provides learning songs for pre-school and primary levels, with printable resources to accompany them. The songs are available on CD's, DVD's and online videos. They cover phonics, reading, math, and other early learning concepts. Great for kinetic and auditory learners.

All Sides

This website provides access to news content from all sides and attempts to evaluate biases. It's goal is to remove readers from their "filter bubbles", promote critical thinking, and fight polarization. It's a great resource for older students (and adults!) in these difficult political times.
