Pre-school

Talkbox.Mom

This program takes a different approach to language learning. Use the everyday phrases in the book to begin speaking the language in your home, and develop fluency over time. Books are available for Spanish, French, and German at reasonable prices, and purchase includes downloadable audio to help with pronunciation.

Engage NY

This site contains downloadable materials that are used as math and language arts curriculum in New York public schools. There is a lot of information on standards and classroom pedagogy that can be a bit intimidating to wade through. But it may be worth the effort if you want to stay aligned with standards. Plus, it's a free and complete program.

Learning Dynamics

This is a complete phonics program with lesson book, over 50 progressive readers, teaching songs, and other activities. There are no samples available, so it's hard to tell how advanced it gets. Looks like a pretty comprehensive program at a fairly reasonable price.

Five Senses Literature Lessons

These curriculum guides are written by an Occupational Therapist and designed to be effective for children with learning differences or sensory issues (though they can certainly work with neurotypical children as well.) The lessons center on children's books and cover cover all major subject areas. They include lots of hands-on, developmentally appropriate activities. Currently, there are materials available for preschool and early elementary ages, and more guides are coming to cover higher level learning (up to about middle school level.)

Candy 4Way Phonics

These are free phonics learning materials in PDF format. There are flashcards, lesson plans, beginning reader stories, and lots more. The visuals are pretty simple, but effective; and the program looks pretty robust. (A note about religious content: the introductory material for parents is a bit heavy-handed in criticizing current teaching methods. There are also some references to God. A quick look at some of the stories and other resources didn't reveal any blatant religious references, but be cautious if you're looking for secular materials.)

Capit

This is a phonics learning app that encourages discovery-based learning. Children play with sounds and letters to create words and sentences. The monthly subscription price is a bit high, but it looks like the sort of resource that could help students progress very quickly in reading skills.

Sex Ed Rescue

This is a very helpful site with resources for talking kids about sex. There are lists of books, videos, and online resources. The blog has great ideas for spotting and taking advantage of teachable moments. And you can sign up for a weekly newsletter to give you regular encouragement.

Doodle Maths

A supplemental math app available on all platforms. The program adapts to a child's responses and provides practice where needed. The is also a parent app that tracks progress and allows you to change the program manually. Reasonably priced, and available through Homeschool Buyers Co-op.
